There Will Be Blood question (Spoilers, so watch out!)

I just finished watching There Will Be Blood last night and I have one question about the ending. Why does Mr. Plainview kill the preacher at the end? I think I have an idea why but I'm just wondering what your take on that situation was.

By the way, I thought it was a great way to end the movie.

Well, I agree with you there. I didn't care for the man either. He came across as selfish and dishonest, in my opinion. He deserved what he got.

One of the themes of the movie is religion. Daniel destroyed the preacher who was not what a religious man should be, he was a false prophet he had it coming. There is an excellent deleted scene about god that you should watch if you havent.

It seemed that the preacher was trying to make sure that the church gained more power, or at least gain power for himself. It also seemed that he wanted to put the interests of the church over the interests of the rest of the community. That's how I saw it.
This definitely deserves a rewatch. This was a great movie.

The preacher put his own interests above all else. He deserved to die.

One of my favorite movies ever! Daniel Plainview vs. Eli Sunday has gotta be one of the best rivalries of all time!
